Week 14a- Print Ready Design-Layout Terms

Serif Font: A small decorative line added as embellishment to the basic form of a character. Typefaces are often described as being serif or sans serif (without serifs). The most common serif typeface is Times Roman.
Sans-Serif Font: A category of typefaces that do not use serifs, small lines at the ends of characters. Popular sans serif fonts include Helvetica, Avant Garde,Arial, and Geneva. Serif fonts include Times Roman, Courier, New Century Schoolbook, andPalatino. According to most studies, sans serif fonts are more difficult to read.

Margin: The edge or border of something.

Illustrator Guides: Allows you to choose where you want to print.

Bleed: a printing term that refers to printing that goes beyond the edge of the sheet before trimming. In other words, the bleed is the area to be trimmed off. The bleed is the part on the side of a document that gives the printer a small amount of space to account for movement of the paper, and design inconsistencies. Artwork and background colors can extend into the bleed area. After trimming, the bleed ensures that no unprinted edges occur in the final trimmed document.

CYMK: The CMYK color model (process color, four color) is a subtractive color model, used in color printing, and is also used to describe the printing process itself. CMYK refers to the four inks used in some color printing: cyan, magenta, yellow, and key (black).

Image Resolution: Resolution refers to the number of pixels in an image. Resolution is sometimes identified by the width and height of the image as well as the total number of pixels in the image. For example, an image that is 2048 pixels wide and 1536 pixels high (2048X1536) contains (multiply) 3,145,728 pixels (or 3.1 Megapixels).

Print Copy: (publishing) a copy of (a book, story, etc) made from trial impressions made from composed type, or print-outs (from a laser printer, etc) for the correction of errors.

ArtBoard: Artboards are a unique and powerful feature of Illustrator. The artboard works just like a piece of paper would on a physical desk. For example, if you were creating a collage, you could put elements you are not currently using on your desk outside of the bounds of the paper.

Registration Mark: Registration marks print outside the trim area of printing. They can include bulls-eye targets, crop marks, plate information, etc. Thesemarks allow the printer to accurately align separate letterpress plates for multiple color print jobs and better align cuts when trimming.

Another Update

These are some projects I was working on! New models! The red guy is another bad guy, and he's attacking the Hero of Justice. The Black moon is for dramaticness.

This is the newly remade Hero of Justice. His official name is: Maxwell. He carries the sword of justice as one of his main weapons.

This is Abbadon, the very embodiment of darkness. He feasts on souls to gain more power.

As you can see, his irises are completely black. He doesn't even have pupils!

Similar to Cyborg/Cybot, he has arm types, but he can make them come out of his own body too!
the giant hand destroys people by coming out his chest.

He also has a tail, which he can use to impale people. Yeesh, how many weapons does he have?

FEAR HIM

Emmy Noether's 133rd Birthday

this is in tribute to Emmy Noether's 133rd birthday. She was a great physicist, and was the reason that we have the equation E=mc2. By that , I mean she inspired the great Albert Einstein to do the works of science we have today.

     There are times when I think back on all the accomplishments I've made n my life, despite my young age. Middle school was, by far, the most frustrating experience for me. In middle school, I had problems making friends, mainly because no one, and I mean NO ONE, really wanted to be my friend. People called me fat, and actually expected me to act like the stereotypical fat person. I almost could not care less about what they said, I pushed on. They kept on with the insults, even insulting me out loud in the classroom. They still didn't stop me. Then old enemies came to my school, trying to continue what was already in the past. That still didn't stop me. Eventually, on graduation day, I graduated Salutatorian of Horace Mann. I wasn't the smartest kid in the school, nor did I take many extra credit classes, but at least I made it to the top of the league. Well, almost the top. I may have gotten  A LOT of "haters" that day, but at least I know I will be more successful than they will.

Sowrd of Justice

This is my recently finished project, The Sword of justice. This is the sword in its pedestal.

Whomever draws the sword from its pedestal, if deemed worthy, he or she will have the title "Hero of Justice". My original character is the one worthy of the title. Those with evil hearts will not be able to use this swords' power, and trying to use it against the chosen one of the sword is impossible.

This is a pic of the sword itself. I had a few other designs, like a different look for the blade/hilt, different colors, etc. This design just stuck, so I chose it. When I get better in this modeling department, it will look more defined.

Another Update.. and a BIG one

I am back, and I bring a picture of nearly all the models I've made so far. Im also using these same models for what I call "The Big Animation". I plan on finishing that project soon.

Notice, The Cyborg now has a lower-class version of himself: Cybot. Like The Cyborg, Cybot has 3 arm types. However, Cybot is considerably weaker than The Cyborg, so he can be taken out easily. What Cybot lacks in strength, he makes up for sheer numbers. Yes, he is MASS PRODUCED!

This is a picture of my model called "The Bad Guy". Thats it, just "The Bad Guy". He has no weapons, just magic.

Speaking of weapons, these are the weapons that will be used in my project. They include weapons from the Armored Soldier and the Royal Knight, and weapons for the Minion Variant of The Bad Guy.

This is the Minion Variant of The Bad Guy. Like Cybot, theres so many, but they're weak. They carry both spiked clubs and Bow and arrows.

This guy, btw, is the Royal Knight. He's appeared in my pictures in the past.

Like I said, the Cybots come in 3 types and are MASS PRODUCED!

This is Early work of My original character, whom I've drawn many times before. He may look like the Royal Knight, but he will look different.

Also, HE HAS FINGERS!!! It took me a while, but he has ACTUAL FINGERS!!!

He also has a sheath for his sword, a minor detail.

ITS HIM! ITS METAL SONIC! YES! I MADE HIM! FROM SCRATCH!!! YES!

AND DONT THINK I'D FORGET HIS JETPACK ON HIS BACK!!!

The only regret i have about this is his spikes. I need to seriously work on them.

Week 6 - Practical Design Projects

- Contrast (Size contrast, shape contrast, texture/color contrast)
    The most common example of all, this is pretty much where it all starts. If two colors are different to each other (say, black and white) they have high contrast, whereas if they are very similar (red and orange) then they have low contrast.

    The next most common form of contrast is using size. Something big beside something small generally indicates that the bigger item is far more important. That’s right, we’re saying that size matters!

    Shape contrast means making things notable in by their difference in physical shape compared to other things on the page. At its most basic level this can be used in things like adding rounded corners to buttons, but taken to more extreme levels it can attract a lot more attention.

- Balance (informal balance, and formal balance)
    an area that first attracts attention in a composition. This area is more important when compared to the other objects or elements in a composition.  This can be by contrast of values, more colors, and placement in the format.

- Proportion
    refers to the relative size and scale of the various elements in a design. The issue is the relationship between objects, or parts, of a whole.

- Perspective
    Perspective (from Latin: perspicere to see through) in the graphic arts is an approximate representation, on a flat surface (such as paper), of an image as it is seen by the eye. The two most characteristic features of perspective are that objects are smaller as their distance from the observer increases; that they are foreshortened, ie that the size of an object's dimensions along the line of sight are relatively shorter than dimensions across the line of sight.
